Ceremonial evening with a vernissage, where architects will present ideas for improving Trutnov

Throughout the summer, the TUarch association, as part of the City Interventions Trutnov project, collected suggestions from citizens for the improvement of the city. At the same time, they engaged architects interested in the cultivation of public spaces, who developed proposals for possible improvements in various parts of Trutnov. The proposals and suggestions will be presented to the public on Thursday, October 27, at 7 PM at the UFFO Social Center. The evening will conclude with inspiring projects by leading Czech architects Petr Lešek from the Projektil studio and Jiří Janďourek from ATAK architects. Successful realizations of public spaces in Litomyšl will be presented by Antonín Dokoupil. The evening will also include the launch of the catalog and the vernissage of the exhibition City Interventions Trutnov 2016. Admission is free.

The idea to revitalize urban space from one’s own initiative originated in 2007 at the Bratislava studio Vallo Sadovský. At that time, architects invited colleagues from other studios to choose a space, a problematic place in the city, and to attempt to propose a solution. Following great success in Bratislava, the project was implemented in Prague, Brno, Jablonec nad Nisou, Kladno, Ostrava, Zlín, and other cities, which inspired the TUarch association to organize this year's first edition in Trutnov.

The aim of the TUarch association, composed of architects originally from Trutnov, was to create a conceptual basis that would stimulate discussion and later efforts to solve problems that residents of Trutnov could identify through an interactive map on the website. The result is 119 identified problems and suggestions.

In July, a workshop for 22 students from across the country was also held in collaboration with the association "Nezevli jen tak" on the Upper Promenade by the Úpa River. During one week, they managed to revitalize the riverbank, previously hidden behind a steam pipeline, with 5 interventions and highlight its potential.

In addition to the collected suggestions and realized interventions during the workshop, architects and creatives submitted 14 proposals. They were addressed by 52 creators and involved three studios at ČVUT in Prague. The topics tackled by the architects ranged from the industrial potential of the city, housing estates, and rivers, to specific locations and objects in the city, as well as focused subjects such as cycling and advertising in the city.
