Brno - The festival Re:publika will connect art, technology, design, sports, and entertainment, starting today at the Brno Exhibition Centre. It will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia and the 90th anniversary of the exhibition area. With a budget of 128 million crowns, the festival will last until June 17, and organizers expect several hundred thousand visitors.
The gates of the exhibition center will open at noon, and the opening ceremony will be attended by the Prime Ministers of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Andrej Babiš and Peter Pellegrini. A procession of historical vehicles will bring a double of the first Czechoslovak president, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, from the Technical Museum in Brno.
Before the opening, the Central Band of the Army of the Czech Republic will perform at the entrance to the area along with the Ondráš ensemble, and hundreds of fire brigade standards will march by. The program inside the area will continue into the evening, featuring performances by artists such as Tomáš Klus and Jana Kirschner.
The exhibitions and programs of the Re:publika festival are free of charge. The only exceptions are the associated exhibition of nine canvases from the Slav Epic and posters by Alphonse Mucha. Individual performances of the Central European ballet company showcase, one of the largest that has ever taken place in the Czech Republic, are also subject to a fee.
