“À Table (franc. At the Table) is an invitation to a joint stay in one space and at one table. It is a call for dialogue, meeting, and reflection on how we might renew and re-establish our relationship with nature and the Earth.”
Lina Ghotmeh

The 22nd summer pavilion for the Serpentine Gallery in London will be built next year by Lina Ghotmeh, a Beirut-born architect who has long been based in Paris. Her design, titled “À Table,” is derived from the French term for a communal meal. The wooden pavilion will feature a nonagonal base with slightly concave walls. In the central space with a ribbed ceiling, a circular table will be placed around the perimeter with benches on both sides. Visitors to the pavilion will be able to enter, sit down, rest, eat, or work. The low-placed wooden roof aims to create a more intense connection with the place. The circular structure consists of slender columns made of glued wood, creating a covered corridor around the central hall. The outer shell is made of translucent glass panels. The interior space is illuminated by a central oculus covered with a membrane.
Compared to previous years, this is intended to be a modest intervention. The author aims to leave as small a carbon footprint as possible. The wooden pavilion will be accessible in Kensington Gardens from September to October 2023.
