American architect David M. Schwarz was announced as the laureate of the Driehaus Prize for Classical Architecture on January 14, 2015. Its members include architects Léon Krier and Demetri Porphyrios, critics Paul Goldberger and Witold Rybczynski, the founder of the city of Seaside Robert Davis, and the president of the American Academy in Rome Adele Chatfield-Taylor. The award will be presented on March 21, 2015, at a ceremony in Chicago. At the same time, the Henry Hope Reed Prize ($50,000) was awarded to American physician and environmentalist Richard J. Jackson for his cultivation and promotion of traditional construction and art, a specialist in researching the impact of urbanism on human health (including the book and website Designing Healthy Communities, 2011, http://designinghealthycommunities.org).
David M. Schwarz studied architecture at the universities of Annapolis and Yale. In 1976, he founded a design firm in Washington, D.C., which he still leads.
