Brussels - The European Union has imposed anti-dumping duties on the import of tiles and paving from China. According to the European Commission, this is a necessary step to end the price war and to protect European manufacturers. They are unable to compete with cheap Chinese tiles. The duty will be applicable until 2016 and will range from 26.3 to 69.7 percent.
"It can be assumed that the impact of the introduction of the mentioned measures in the European Union will help the entire industry. This reduces the risk that manufacturing plants will need to close and layoffs will occur," the bulletin states, which is cited by the Reuters agency.
The anti-dumping duties apply to manufacturers of all types of tiles, including those for bathrooms, kitchens, and paving. Chinese producers will have to pay these duties whenever their goods cross the EU borders.
