H&deM is building at the Vitra company site in SANAA

On October 27, 2006, the company Vitra announced at a press conference two projects to expand its production facility in Weil am Rhein, prompted by the ever-increasing interest from clients and visitors. The authors of the first project titled "VitraHaus," which will house a museum and a shop with a café, are the Basel office of Herzog & de Meuron. Their project will be located alongside Gehry's museum and Ando's conference pavilion, right before the entrance to the company's premises. The four-story museum consists of randomly stacked and wedged houses with pitched roofs. The gables of the otherwise completely white structures will be colorfully glazed, allowing views of the exhibited furniture inside.
The second new building will be the "Vitrashop" factory hall designed by the Japanese duo SANAA. This bulky square with rounded corners will be situated in the southeastern part of the production area. Currently, there are no further details about this project (except that the interior clear height will be eight meters with office mezzanines, the factory will be clad in corrugated panels, and light will enter through skylights).
