The headquarters of the transport company in Lauterach from Cukrowicz Nachbaur

In Lauterach, on the southern outskirts of Bregenz, is the headquarters of Austria's oldest transportation company, Gebrüder Weiss, which was founded in 1823. However, references to the regular transportation conducted by the Weiss family between Lindau and Milan can be found in documents as early as the mid-14th century. The annual turnover of the logistics company Gebrüder Weiss exceeds 1.25 billion euros, making it a significant provider of job opportunities, and the new office building constructed in 2014 is designed to offer the company’s employees the best possible conditions.
The design of the new headquarters is by the local firm Cukrowicz Nachbaur, which won an architectural competition four years ago with its concept of a floating low black cube. The office building for 130 employees spans an area of 4,600 square meters. The entire structure is raised on columns above a covered parking lot. From the upper two floors, there is a perfect view of the orange vehicles moving around the company premises. The vertical sunshades are controlled automatically. When closed, the black slats create the impression of a solid cube. The interior of the office building is sufficiently lit thanks to a trio of internal atriums filled with greenery and glass partition walls between individual work areas.
