The Slovak working group DOCOMOMO, with the support of the initiative Bratislava Open (BAO), announces on February 5, 2012, a petition for the preservation and restoration of the commercial and social complex at Kamenné námestie in Bratislava. Urban planning proposals addressing the area of Kamenné námestie, which are currently under review by the Regional Heritage Office in Bratislava, the closure of the Kyjev hotel to the public, and recent statements from the hotel owners regarding its planned reconstruction have concerned us to the extent that we are reaching out to the public with an urgent request for support in preserving this extraordinary architectural work. Our goal is to simultaneously initiate a public discussion about this significant urban space in Bratislava, as well as about how such serious issues regarding the city's development are decided in our environment.
The petition can also be supported electronically at the web site. A page has also been created on the social network facebook, where more detailed information and documents about the commercial and social center at Kamenné námestie are published. Thus, a platform has emerged for public discussion about this space and its architecture.
