Los Angeles - A brand new film museum is set to open in Hollywood in four years, designed by the famous Italian architect Renzo Piano. The museum project is being prepared by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which is responsible for the annual Academy Awards, and the organizing committee includes actors such as Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio.
The film museum will not be built from scratch; it will be based on the renovation of a protected building from the 1940s in downtown Hollywood, which Piano is preparing together with his American colleague Zoltan Pali. "The Academy Museum will take visitors through the backdoor into the world of film, into the world behind the curtain, where film magic is created," described the intention of the 74-year-old Italian creator, who has recently gained visibility as the author of the London skyscraper known as the Shard.
Not much is yet known about what the museum's exhibits will look like. However, media reported this year that one of its highlights could be the red slippers worn by Dorothy, played by Judy Garland, in the famous film adaptation of The Wizard of Oz.
