Winning project of the museum in Brazil by Diller Scofidio + Renfro

The New York office of Diller Scofidio + Renfro won the international competition for the 'Museu da Imagen e de Som' (Museum of Image and Sound) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The site is located on the famous Copacabana promenade, designed by Roberto Burle Marx, paved with a traditional Portuguese wave pattern using black and white stones. The building is conceived as a continuation of the beachfront boulevard vertically drawn into the museum. The museum consists of interior and exterior spaces branching into galleries and public areas for leisure and entertainment. Vertical communication elements connect the street with the various parts of the museum: an auditorium, raised terraces with a bar and café, a piano bar on the third floor, a restaurant on the sixth floor, and an outdoor cinema on the roof.
