The AIA Gold Medal 2012 was awarded to Steven Holl

On Thursday, December 8, 2011, the holder of the AIA Gold Medal for 2012 was announced. The highest honor awarded by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) was given to New York architect Steven Holl. The award is granted for contributions to architecture in the fields of theory and practice. Steven Holl is the 68th recipient. He joins giants such as Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Sullivan, and Le Corbusier, and his name will be engraved on the 'honor wall' at the main headquarters of the AIA in Washington, D.C.
In recent years, Steven Holl, in addition to large urban development projects in China, has also completed smaller museum buildings, such as the Cité de l'Océan et du Surf in Biarritz, France, and the Knut Hamsun museum in Hamarøy, Norway. He is currently working on the construction of a new sports center at Columbia University.
