Prague - Architect Jan Kaplický married film producer Eliška Fuchsová. "It was a secret wedding; we do not know any details," said ČTK Kateřina Nováková from the National Library, who is in contact with the architect regarding his design for a new building for this institution. According to ČTK information, the long-prepared wedding took place on Sunday after the Great Pardubice.

"We wished the newlywed to primarily support Mr. Kaplický psychologically in the current dispute over his project," said Nováková. Kaplický, who celebrated his seventieth birthday this spring, was recently voted the most charismatic Czech in a poll by one of the domestic newspapers - despite having British citizenship today.
Kaplický's work, which experts say advances the possibilities of architecture, has received numerous awards worldwide. In the Czech Republic, he was not very well known among the laypeople until this spring, although several books of his were published here. After winning an international architectural competition for the construction of a new National Library building in March, he came into broader public awareness. A documentary film titled Profile was also made about him, directed by his wife, Eliška Fuchsová.
Kaplický was born on April 18, 1937, into an artistic family - his father was a painter, sculptor, and architect, and his mother was a draftsman. He also studied at the Academy of Art, Architecture and Design in Prague and shortly worked as a freelancer. Before making a name for himself in Britain, he collaborated with renowned architects such as Norman Foster, Richard Rogers, and Renzo Piano.
