Frýdek-Místek – The developing district in the area of the former textile factory Slezan on Těšínská Street in Frýdek-Místek will be connected to the planned transport terminal by a prominent staircase. The design of the connection, which also includes sidewalks, benches, and greenery, has already been proposed by architects. This was stated by the spokesperson of the magistrate, Jana Musálková Jeckelová.
"The city is again one step closer to realizing a new urban district. The planned boulevard on the site of the former textile factory Slezan will be connected by a prominent staircase. It will be about 20 meters wide and will overcome a height difference of about eight meters. It is to be set into the currently unattractive and unused slope, which people traverse further from the future location of the new staircase using metal steps," said the spokesperson.
She added that the construction of the staircase should begin between 2023 and 2024, and the boulevard itself will also be created by the end. The city estimates costs around 15 million crowns. "The entire bank will be landscaped on both sides and will almost have elements of an arboretum. By opening the entrance to the boulevard from the station, it will be softened. It will invite people to walk there and provide an uplifting feeling, as it will be a cultivated public space environment," stated the deputy mayor for investments and finance Jiří Kajzar (Naše Město F-M).
The spokesperson reminded that the transformation of the former textile complex into a new urban district follows the memorandum of cooperation that the city signed in 2016 with Slezan Holding, which owns and manages the areas. The memorandum ensures that no historically valuable industrial building will be affected. The transformation began last year with the reconstruction of the former textile school.
"It will house a new municipal police headquarters and an administrative department of the magistrate. The building is to be completed in the first half of next year and will cost about 60 million crowns. A private investor plans to build three residential buildings and a mixed-use facility. A small square with a restaurant and a microbrewery in the original power plant is also to be created," said the spokesperson. She added that the transport terminal, which the now planned staircase will connect to the new urban district, could begin construction in 2024.
