Aš - The city of Aš is preparing the restoration of the oldest local monument, a stone bridge from 1724. The rescue of the heritage-protected object is to be part of the restoration of an area of about three hectares in its vicinity. A so-called Park of History is to be created there, which will include, among other things, virtual tours, spokesperson for the Aš town hall Milan Vrbata announced today in a press release.
"The study anticipates a complete restoration of the greenery, supplemented with flowerbeds, new paths are planned, and some original paths will be restored, as well as a new footbridge over the ditch. The aforementioned bridge will be reconstructed, asphalt will be replaced with stone paving here, and so on," Vrbata stated.
The park restoration, for which a building permit has already been issued, will also bring several other activities related to Aš's oldest history. "A new application is to be created, allowing a virtual tour of the streets Na Příkopech and Kaplanky during the time when there were houses standing here," Vrbata added. The virtual tour is to include the building of the mortuary, the cemetery behind the church, and the overall layout of the park.
The city estimates the cost of the project in the tens of millions of crowns, and will therefore seek a grant from European funds. Whether the application was successful will be determined in the middle of this year. The restoration itself is expected to last until 2021.
