Prague - The multifunctional hall Forum Karlín, owned by entrepreneur Zdeněk Bakala, will be inaugurated by a concert of the American band Nine Inch Nails on Wednesday for a quarter of a billion crowns. The offices are still awaiting tenants, with the first moving in in July. Representatives of Forum Karlín told ČTK this a day before the opening. "The American industrial band Nine Inch Nails will perform at the Forum Karlín multifunctional hall on Wednesday, followed by the band Kosheen the next day," said the company's director Ondřej Špalek. Next week, an international urban planning conference reSite will take place here, and in August, the band Queens of the Stone Age will perform. In the fall, singer Lara Fabian will visit Forum Karlín, and the Struny podzimu festival will be added, Špalek said. The hall has a capacity of up to 3000 seats. Renting the hall without event organizer services costs 200,000 crowns for 24 hours, with an additional 100,000 crowns for services such as security, firefighters, or cleaning. "We plan to organize 80 to 100 events annually. About 70% will be musical performances, with the remaining 30% being exhibitions, conferences, or television production," said project operational director Štěpán Svoboda. The company estimates the return on investment to be 15 to 20 years, depending on market developments. The costs for the construction of the multifunctional hall consumed a quarter of the billion crown budget for the entire project, which includes a media newsroom of the Economia publishing house, a modern office building with 9500 m² of office space across six floors, and 210 parking spaces for office tenants. The last three floors will be occupied by companies from the BM Management group of the Bakala couple, which are expected to move in at the beginning of September. The largest tenant outside the group will be the company Social Bakers. "Currently, we have rented 90 percent of the office space. The first tenants will move in in July," Špalek told ČTK. Construction work on the project began in August 2012. Bakala is financing the billion-crown project as a private individual. The buildings were designed by the Prague studio AED project and the renowned Spanish architect Ricardo Bofill.
