Beroun - Beroun wants to start repairs on the outdoor swimming pool in the Velké sídliště neighborhood this year, which is in a neglected state. If everything goes smoothly, the reconstruction costing tens of millions of crowns will begin in September. The repaired pool is expected to open next year, said Deputy Mayor Michal Mišina (for ANO) to ČTK.
The project could receive a building permit at the beginning of February. "We would like to start construction on September 1, just after the end of the swimming season," Mišina stated. However, according to him, it is questionable whether the pool will be operational this year at all, as the state of the water management is very poor. In addition to the pool and water treatment facility, the amenities for visitors are also set to be renewed.
The pool was built in the 1970s and opened in 1980. In 2002, the city invested four million crowns in it as a one-time investment. From 2003 to 2007, another 2.7 million crowns was spent on partial replacement of piping and tiles. In 2015, the city hall had the sand filters replaced at the pool for one million crowns. Recently, the tiles were also replaced, the walls were painted, and investments were made into necessary maintenance. During the season, the complex is visited by around 10,000 people, and according to the city hall, it could be more.
