Brno - The first aquapark opened yesterday in the regional capital of Brno. It features an indoor pool with a ninety-meter waterslide, a rooftop viewing pool, and other attractions. The construction cost 210 million crowns and was approximately two and a half times higher than the originally estimated costs. The opposition has previously criticized the increased costs, but the coalition believes it is justified since an aquapark was built instead of the originally planned school pool on Chalabalova Street.
The aquacenter was in development for two years. The architectural design was created by experts from the K4 studio, who had to deal with limited space. They managed to fit the pool hall, technical facilities, entrance, service operations, and waterslide into a single unit. According to the director of the construction company Stavoprogres Brno, Josef Kavalec, the pool does not conform to any traditional technology, and for example, builders used glued wooden trusses for the hall. Due to its external appearance, the structure is nicknamed the armadillo.
Architects and designers selected modern materials for the construction, many of which, according to Kavalec, are used for the first time in the country. This includes the insulation of the building with so-called foam glass. "It has unique thermal properties; it does not condense," he added.
The pool is intended for competitive and recreational swimming as well as relaxation. It is designed in such a way that it can be used by water polo players and synchronized swimmers. It is managed by the city company Starez-sport, which also oversees the pool at Lužánky and the Riviéra swimming pool.
The hourly admission for adults is 80 crowns, for youth up to 18 years old 65 crowns, and for children up to six years old 30 crowns. Additional hours of stay will be cheaper, and the pool manager also offers discounted family tickets and seasonal passes. In the morning from 6:00 to 9:00, the pool will be open for recreational swimmers at 45 crowns per hour. However, attractions will not be in operation during that time. Further details, including operating hours, are published by the manager on the aquapark's website.
