Brno - The city council today approved Jan Tesárek to head the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno. Tesárek has been in charge of the office since the beginning of the year, when the chief architect Michal Sedláček left after six years. He was the only one to apply for the selection process, according to information from the Brno City Hall.

"My vision is an open and communicative organization that is a respected partner for both the city and the professional and lay public. I am directing the energy of the entire office primarily towards completing the city's territorial plan, cultivating public spaces, and creating better conditions for greenery, blue-green infrastructure, and sustainable mobility," said the new director.

Tesárek graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Brno University of Technology. He worked for over 15 years in significant Brno studios, focusing primarily on residential and civic buildings, architectural details, as well as designs for public spaces and spatial studies. From 2018 to 2022, he worked at KAM in the public space department.

The selection procedure for the position of director was announced by the city at the beginning of May, with about a month for submitting applications. City Hall spokesperson Filip Poňuchálek previously told ČTK that only one person had applied for it. The office of the chief architect previously existed in Brno but was dissolved in 2003 when the city was run by a coalition led by the ODS. The office was re-established when the city hall was led by a coalition headed by the ANO movement. The initiative for its formation came from the Greens. It now has around 60 employees.
