Brno – Brno wants to donate documentation for the construction of a parking garage in the area of the Children's Hospital. The deputy mayor, Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL), told reporters today. Originally, the city planned to build a parking garage with 500 spaces for 160 million. However, according to Hladík, the hospital expressed interest in building it itself. There is a shortage of parking spaces around the facility, and problems often arise.

The construction of the building has been discussed for several years. The documentation for the zoning decision cost one million crowns, and its donation will be discussed by the city council. "Initially, we tried to acquire the land from the hospital to the ownership of the city or the right to build, so we could finally start construction," said Hladík. However, according to him, the new leadership of the Faculty Hospital Brno, under which the Children’s Hospital falls, reconsidered and wants to build the building itself.

According to the spokesperson of the Faculty Hospital Brno, Pavel Žára, the facility will accept the documentation. "We will proceed independently; it is the best solution," Žára stated without further details.

According to Hladík, it is important that the parking garage is built by spring 2022 when resident parking is scheduled to begin in the area. Otherwise, there could be problems, and visitors to the hospital might not have anywhere to park at all, Hladík noted. The city originally intended for the building to have spaces for both hospital visitors and residents. According to Žára, everything will still need to be addressed; however, the parking lot should also serve the public.
