Brno - Brno is seeking a company to build a children's hospice called Home for Julia. The estimated costs are 182 million crowns, and part of it will be covered by subsidies. Construction could begin in July and be completed by the end of next year. The mayor's deputy, Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL), told reporters today. The home will be located in the garden of a senior residence in the Kociánka area and will offer ten rooms. It will serve terminally ill children.
The three-story building with an inner courtyard will be integrated into the garden. "The hospice will have ten separate rooms for clients, of which eight will serve as respite rooms. Facilities will also be prepared for the parents and siblings of the children. The facility will further offer a wide range of therapeutic services, including psychological, social, and spiritual support," said the mayor's deputy Robert Kerndl (ODS).
According to Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS), the search for a contractor is the last step for the hospice to be established. "We began collaborating with the organization Home for Julia last year. Brno will provide the new construction of the hospice, which will then be operated by the organization. This project is very unique in the Czech Republic, and I am glad that such a necessary service for families with terminally ill children will be established here," said Vaňková.
Of the 182 million crowns in costs, 92 million will be covered by a European grant from the Integrated Regional Operational Program. The rest will be paid by the city. The organization Home for Julia will then equip the hospice for its operation from donations and public collections and will operate the hospice. The operation will be partially funded by health insurance, the state budget, the regional budget, and sources from the city. Another part will be covered by contributions from donors and patrons. The estimated operational costs for one year are 12 million crowns.
