Brno - Brno will build a children's hospice called House for Julia for 160 million crowns, which will then be operated by the namesake organization. Grants from the European Union could cover 92 million, with the city providing the rest. This was approved by the councilors today. Construction is planned for the years 2021 to 2023. The hospice will serve those with incurable diseases.

The councilors today approved the project, the preparation of the grant application, and a cooperation agreement with the organization House for Julia, which proposed the construction. Originally, they wanted to build the home themselves, but the city has now taken on the costs. A total of 44 councilors supported it, no one was against it, and no one abstained. The hospice will take the form of a three-story building and will be built in the garden of the Kociánka senior home. It will serve children and young adults with decreased self-sufficiency due to illness, who are otherwise cared for by a close person at home.

Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS) previously stated that the institution will excel in both the scope and quality of services. "Such a closely specialized care is very rare throughout the Czech Republic, and the responses from both the general public and healthcare professionals clearly indicated the importance and benefit of establishing a children's hospice,” Vaňková said.

The building is expected to be completed by June 2023. "The capacity of the home is 10 rooms. It will also offer a wide range of therapeutic services, including psychological, social, and spiritual assistance, as well as facilities for families of children with life-threatening diagnoses. It will also include a day care center, and the non-profit organization will continue providing the respite care service that it has been running since 2019,” said the mayor's deputy, Petr Hladík.
