Brno has a new lookout tower in the Holedná game reserve, measuring 35 meters

Brno – Brno officially has a new tallest observation tower. With its 35 meters, it has become the newly opened tower in the Holedná game preserve, which people selected as one of the participatory budget projects.

"At the end of last year, we allocated eight million crowns from the city budget for the implementation to the Forests of the City of Brno. The production of the observation tower structure and its subsequent construction took less than a year. From today, the tower is accessible to the public in the same manner as the entire Holedná game reserve, which is year-round and free of charge," stated Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík at the opening.

The observation tower was built and will be managed by the company Lesy města Brna, which cares for the entire preserve. The steel tower measures 35 meters, and 208 steps lead to its top, which is a platform at a height of 34.32 meters.

"The original design included a wooden observation tower about twenty meters tall. However, during a terrain survey using a drone, it became clear that the height of the tower permitted by the wooden structure could soon be surpassed by the surrounding trees. However, building a tower with a steel skeleton meant exceeding the financial limits governed by the participatory budget – at that time, the maximum project price was set at 2.4 million crowns," stated Deputy Mayor Tomáš Koláčný (Pirates).

In the end, the city covered the costs of the architectural competition and the development of project documentation from the participatory budget, with additional funds provided beyond the participatory budget.
