Brno – Brno plans to build a lookout tower on Červený kopec. It should be approximately 20 meters tall, and the preliminary costs are estimated at five to seven million crowns, said Brno's Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS) in a press release today. It is to be located above the Kamenná Colony near Jaroslav Foglar Street.

Councillors approved the development of an investment plan. "Červený kopec is one of the few places in Brno that offers a beautiful view of the entire city with all its landmarks. We would like to continue to develop this significant location and increase its attractiveness,” Vaňková stated.

The lookout tower is to be built in a gardening colony on city-owned land. The land is currently unused and overgrown with wild plants. Access to the lookout tower will be available only for pedestrians; vehicles will be prohibited from entering according to the city.

The plan also includes the construction of an access road and the stabilization of the nearby slope. "The lookout tower should be approximately 20 meters high. Its supporting structure should be entirely wooden, and there will be educational panels and photographs on each floor. In the lower part, there will be space where visitors can shelter in case of bad weather,” Vaňková said.

The vicinity of Kamenná Colony and Červený kopec is, according to her, a popular place for afternoon walks for many Brno residents. "The lookout tower will certainly be a favorite stop on these excursions. Preliminary estimates suggest that the construction could cost between five and seven million crowns. We will know more after the project documentation is prepared,” the mayor added.

Červený kopec is a national nature reserve located in the central city district of Brno-střed. A diverse composition of trees grows on the hill, such as acacias, beeches, spruces, pines, hazels, lindens, ashes, and maples, as well as jasmine, wild rose bushes, and elderberry. For this reason, the area is a destination for expert excursions and scientific interest. Last year, Brno opened the Holedná lookout tower in the Jundrov district.
