Brno - The lookout tower on Holedná hill above the Brno Jundrov is set to start construction in May. The city will pay 6.6 million crowns for it, and it should be completed by the end of this year, said Monika Neshybová, spokesperson for the Forests of the City of Brno, to ČTK. The construction of the lookout tower was successful in the first round of the participatory budget, so it is a proposal from the residents; however, its construction has been delayed.
The Holedná game reserve, which also houses large game, is a popular hiking destination for many Brno residents, and from some places with low forest, there are views of the surroundings. However, a lookout tower has been missing so far on the second highest peak of the forest between Jundrov, Bystrc, and Kohoutovice. The summit is at an altitude of 391 meters and will provide a view of a significant part of Brno and the hills, primarily to the west and north of the city.
Access to the construction site will be from the Old Highway, and according to Neshybová, there are no restrictions planned for visitors to the game reserve. The lookout tower is supposed to be assembled on site like a construction set after the parts are manufactured. "Only the necessary construction site area will be marked, where access will be prohibited," Neshybová said.
Among the modern lookout towers in Brno is the structure on Ostrá hora in Soběšice from 2005, which stands on a hill only 13 meters higher. A few years ago, a lookout tower was also built in Komárov on a former chimney in the Komec sports complex. The normally inaccessible observation tower of Pavilion G at the exhibition grounds can also serve as a lookout tower; nearly a century-old lookout tower also exists in the Kamenný vrch forest park, but due to the grown forest, it has long ceased to offer any views.
