Brno - The Brno-Center municipal district has renovated a rental building from 1934 at Moravské náměstí 14 for approximately 30 million crowns. Although it is not a protected monument, it is a significant structure designed by the Functionalist architect Oskar Poříška. This was stated by Michal Doležel, a councilor of the municipal district.

"We decided to renovate the house sensitively and qualitatively due to its qualities, as if it were a cultural monument," said Doležel. Poříška designed the building as the conclusion of the newly formed Mášova Street. Thanks to its dominant passage, the building represented a symbolic gateway between the city core and the newly emerging area.

The building was commissioned by the Valentina Falkensteiner Foundation, established at the end of the 19th century with the aim of raising funds for the construction of houses for the socially weaker and middle class. The property suffered significant damage during World War II due to the bombardment of the German House, which was located nearby, but at the end of the war it burned down and was subsequently demolished. Since its inception, Poříška's structure has not undergone significant repairs.

The Brno-Center municipal district also plans similarly extensive repairs for other significant buildings. Doležel mentioned, for example, the neighboring building 12 at Moravské náměstí or the building known as Rozmarýn on Kounicova Street. The Rozmarýn complex was built in the mid-1920s according to the design of architect Karel Nahůnek in the rondocubist style. It included rental apartments, a socio-cultural background, an administrative part, and also housed a cinema, among other things.
