Kroměříž – Kroměříž Hospital plans to open a new emergency surgery department in October. The construction began two years ago. According to hospital representatives, it will provide patients and healthcare workers with better and more modern facilities. The total investment in the new extension of Hospital Building A amounts to approximately 200 million crowns. The investor of the construction is the Zlín Region, which establishes the hospital. The equipment for the emergency department and the eye department is funded by the hospital from its own and grant sources. This was stated in today's press release by its spokesperson Alena Horáková.

In the two-story building, the ground floor will house the emergency department for surgical specialties, while the upper floor will feature the eye department with its own operating room. The new building is situated on a portion of a former park and grassy area. It connects to a previous extension with magnetic resonance imaging and orthoptics from 2019. "The construction project is followed by the establishment of parking spaces in front of the northern part of Building A, along with a smaller park for patients' relaxation, where the well-known sandstone statue of a girl will also return, which has undergone restoration and is now stored in a depository," the spokesperson stated.

As early as June, according to the chairwoman of the board of Kroměříž Hospital, Lenka Mergenthalová, it was possible to move the eye department from the original premises of central Building A to the upper floor of the new extension. "This logically follows the orthoptics department, thus improving the comfort for both patients and staff. In October, there will also be a major move to the ground floor spaces of the emergency department and clinics for surgery," Mergenthalová said.

The eye department has gained an operating room thanks to the extension. Eye surgeries will thus free up space in the central operating rooms, which is mainly needed for classical surgical specialties. Patients from the eye department who need surgery will no longer have to go anywhere else.

"We are pleased that the new emergency surgery department will also have a waiting room, which will be used to complete diagnostics and is currently missing in the existing emergency department. Patients in beds or chairs can be connected to a monitor or infusion and wait in a dignified space for their examination results, which elevates the level of care," added Mergenthalová. In the future, the hospital plans further extensions with inpatient departments or operating rooms.
