Brno – Brno is preparing the reconstruction of the atrium of the Waldorf Primary and Nursery School for 14.5 million crowns. This was stated in a press release by Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL). The city aims to obtain a grant of over 12 million. The atrium will feature a relaxation zone with a stage where students and teachers can meet.

The school secured the preparatory work from its own funds, including obtaining documentation for the building permit. "The main goal of the project is to transform the grassy area of the atrium into a relaxation zone with educational elements and a stage. This will turn the atrium into a creative space where students and teachers can meet, where informal education will take place, which is equally beneficial for children as that in classrooms," said Brno's Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

According to Hladík, the costs are estimated at 14.5 million crowns. Over 12 million can be covered by the grant. The city council of Brno decided that the grant applicant will be the city, not the school. "The reason is primarily the experience of the investment department and the department for implementing European funds, which will administer this matter. The actual work will begin during 2021 and will last about one year," explained Investment Councilor David Grund (ODS).

The atrium will have installed elements that, according to the Councilor for Education Jaroslav Suchý (KDU-ČSL), will demonstrate to children the functioning of various physical and natural phenomena. "At the same time, the place will become barrier-free and there will also be a small stage or a water feature," added Suchý.

Brno has about 70 primary schools attended by approximately 30,000 children. In addition, the city manages 140 nursery schools, which are attended by around 12,000 children.
