Brno - Brno will build new facilities in three schools for approximately 108 million crowns. The old and vacant building of the kindergarten Sýpka will be demolished and a new one will be constructed. This will increase the capacity by 75 places, said the mayor's deputy Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL) to reporters today. At the Waldorf Elementary and Kindergarten, the outdoor atrium will be renovated for polytechnic education, and new classrooms will be created at Čejkovická Elementary School. Brno aims to obtain most of the funds from subsidies.

The building of Kindergarten Sýpka is part of the elementary school on Merhautova Street. "It has been closed for several years now, as it is in a state of disrepair," Hladík stated. Therefore, the city plans to demolish it and construct a new building with three classrooms, amenities, and facilities. This will increase the kindergarten's capacity by 75 places. The construction modifications will also affect the garden, which will be designated for children's outdoor activities. The city estimates the costs at 64 million crowns, with subsidies potentially around 57 million crowns.

The outdoor atrium of the Waldorf School is in poor condition. The construction modifications costing 17 million include the installation of educational elements focused on natural sciences, technical, and craft subjects. The subsidy could amount to nearly 15 million crowns.

According to Hladík, Čejkovická Elementary School does not have enough classrooms. The building lacks a completed fourth floor, and therefore the construction of this floor would solve the space shortage. The project would include classroom equipment and accessibility. Estimated costs are 27 million, with the subsidy potentially covering up to 24 million crowns.

Brno has nearly 140 kindergartens, which are attended by approximately 11,500 children. It operates almost 70 elementary schools, attended by nearly 30,000 children.
