Brno – Brno will repair and insulate the roof of the fifty-meter swimming pool at Lužánky and replace the lights in the main hall. This was stated today by the councilor for sports, Jaroslav Suchý, in a press release. The estimated costs exceed 35 million crowns. Starting in July, the pool will be closed for about a year due to the construction of a smaller twenty-five-meter pool next to it. Therefore, the city wants to take advantage of the downtime for further work. Repairs will also include, for example, the diving tower and platforms.

The council announced a public tender for the work on the roof and ceiling. "According to the static assessment from 2019, the condition of some load-bearing structures of the ceiling over the pool is in an emergency state. The cause is an unsuitable technical solution that causes poor ventilation and damage to the integrity of the vapor barrier," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková.

According to her, increased humidity has caused corrosion of the load-bearing steel elements of the roof and degradation of the wooden panels in the upper shell, which are excessively bent. "Therefore, complete repair is necessary. In order to minimize the time the swimming stadium will be closed to the public, the reconstruction was planned to coincide with other work on the modernization of the complex," Vaňková said.

Currently, there is a fifty-meter pool at the site, and a twenty-five-meter pool will be built for approximately 250 million. This will make it possible to hold swimming competitions at the location. Associated with this is the modernization of the entire complex. The work includes the reconstruction of the entrances to both pools, changing rooms, and other modifications to the original pool, as well as the reconstruction of the diving tower for ten million.
