Brno - The preparation for the construction of a bridge costing 220 million crowns over the Svitava River near the Nová Zbrojovka complex in Brno has advanced to the next phase. The city is currently preparing a public tender for the development of project documentation for this construction. The Brno councilors agreed to the assignment at their meeting, and the city informed about it in a press release.
The architectural competition for the design of the bridge was won last March by the London studio William Matthews Associates. "The next step in preparing for the actual construction is now the development of project documentation. The public tender will be conducted without publication, according to the rules established in the competition. The winning company will be the first to be approached," stated Brno's mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).
However, the price of the work will also be crucial. The city has set the maximum value of the contract at 18.5 million crowns. If the London firm cannot meet this price cap, the contract for the project documentation will be awarded to another company.
The project and the construction of the bridge, which will be 85 meters long and 30 meters wide, will be financed by the city. The estimated costs for the construction are 220 million crowns. The bridge will connect the Nová Zbrojovka area, where a new neighborhood is being developed, and the Zetor Motor Factory on the other bank.
The preparation of project documentation and the securing of necessary permits is expected to take about three years. The actual construction is set to begin in 2027.
