Bruntál - The residents of Bruntál have hope that a fountain will return to their square after 70 years. The proposal for its construction was made by the renowned artist from the region, Lubomír Dostál. The council has been considering the revival of the fountain for two years, but the construction has so far been too costly for the city budget. The council has preliminarily supported Dostál's proposal and is preparing to discuss the new centerpiece of the square with citizens, said the city spokesman Jiří Ondrášek today. The basic shape of the proposed fountain is a circle with six inner columns, the top of each of which depicts various phases of a water droplet's impact. Dostál previously presented a smaller model, which is now in the large conference room of the city hall. "The concept of the fountain respects the character of the center of Bruntál and its reconstructed central square. It is only a basic proposal, which can be modified for the final design," clarified Ondrášek. The proposed design of the fountain has already been recommended for further development and realization by the city construction commission, after which the council tasked the mayor with further negotiations. The city also wants to involve the public in the decision-making process, and therefore has announced a poll regarding the proposed design of the fountain on the website www.mubruntal.cz. The estimated costs for the construction of the fountain are expected to be around two million crowns. "We are also considering the possibility of announcing a public collection. Every citizen could contribute, even with just a symbolic amount. Their name would be an inseparable part of the official list of donors," stated the spokesman. A fountain already existed in the Bruntál square, originally it was wooden. In 1907, the then mayor had a new marble fountain built. It cost 5600 crowns, and the mayor personally paid for it as a gift to the city on the occasion of his 60th birthday. In 1939, it was dismantled, and its fate remains unclear to this day.
