Bruntál - The town hall in Bruntál has begun renovations on the historic tennis club building. The reconstruction, which will cost over eight million crowns, is expected to be completed later this year. "The reason for the extensive repairs is the poor condition of some parts of this unique timber-framed building," said Jiří Ondrášek, spokesperson for the city office, to ČTK.
The city will contribute around two million crowns to the project. The remaining funds were obtained by the town hall in the form of a grant from the Ministry of Regional Development.
The building currently serves the tennis club in Bruntál, which has leased the property from the city. "The club is responsible for the maintenance of the building. However, the area can be used by the public. In the future, it will become a larger part of the Bruntál Sports Campus complex. There is no other similarly equipped and publicly accessible tennis facility in Bruntál," said the spokesperson.
In the past, the building served as a pavilion for a former ice rink. In April 2004, it was declared a cultural monument. According to heritage experts, the structure is an example of quality architecture from around the year 1900. It was built on the cusp of late historicism and the emerging postmodernism.
