This year’s laureates of the State Prize for Literature, the State Prize for Translational Works, and the Ministry of Culture's Award for Contribution in the fields of theater, music, fine arts, architecture, and cinematography and audiovisual media for the year 2013 are the following personalities.


1) The State Prize for Literature for the year 2013 is awarded to Petr Hruška for the collection Darmata
Petr Hruška is a poet, literary historian, university lecturer, and employee of the Institute of Czech Literature of the Czech Academy of Sciences. The collection Darmata provides the reader with a very human view of man and his everyday world and poses surprising, sometimes even disturbing questions.

2) The State Prize for Translational Works for the year 2013 is awarded to Vratislav Slezák for his lifetime achievement, considering his translations of Hermann Hesse
Vratislav J. (Jiří) Slezák is a translator from German, Danish, and Polish. In addition to Hermann Hesse, he also translates works by Thomas Mann and Heinrich Böll, among others.

3) The Ministry of Culture’s Award for Contribution in the field of theater for the year 2013 is awarded to Ctibor Turba for his exceptional contribution in the field of pantomime, new circus, and movement theater.
Ctibor Turba is a screenwriter, director, educator, and mime. Throughout his career, he worked, for example, at Laterna Magika and in the circus Humberto.

4) The Ministry of Culture’s Award for Contribution in the field of music for the year 2013 is awarded to Jiří Černý for his undeniable contribution to Czech music criticism across a wide range of musical genres.
Jiří Černý is a music critic, author of popular club programs Antidiskotéka and Rockování, and also author or co-author of several books. He collaborates with newspapers, magazines, radio, and television.

5) The Ministry of Culture's Award for Contribution in the field of fine arts for the year 2013 is awarded to Milan Grygar for his unique lifetime artistic activity
Milan Grygar engages in painting, graphics, typography, film posters, and sound realizations. He explores the relationship between drawing and sound.

6) The Ministry of Culture’s Award for Contribution in the field of architecture for the year 2013 is awarded to Rostislav Švácha for his unique contribution to the understanding and popularization of modern and contemporary architecture and for his intense defense of cultural heritage.
Rostislav Švácha is an art and architecture historian and university lecturer. He primarily focuses on architecture from the 17th to the 21st century.

7) The Ministry of Culture’s Award for Contribution in the field of cinematography and audiovisual media for the year 2013 is awarded to Vladimír Opěla for his lifetime work and long-term merits in the care for the preservation of film cultural heritage and in memoriam also to František Vláčil for his lifetime film work and extraordinary artistic contribution to Czech cinematography.
Vladimír Opěla has contributed to the preservation of the integrity and development of exceptional collections of the National Film Archive, which, thanks to his work, has become a globally respected institution.
František Vláčil is one of the most significant figures in Czech cinematography, whose timeless and visually perfect films such as Markéta Lazarová or Údolí včel are today considered by film experts as masterpieces of Czech cinema.

The ceremonial award presentation took place on October 24, 2013, at the National Theatre, and the evening was broadcasted later that same evening by Czech Television on the ČT Art program.
The ceremonial award for contribution in the field of cinematography will take place separately on October 31, 2013, at 7:30 PM in the National Film Archive cinema Ponrepo (Bio Konvikt). The evening will include a screening of the best-preserved copy of the lesser-known film by František Vláčil, Skleněná oblaka.

Karel Havliš, architect, academic at the Faculty of Architecture VUT in Brno
Vendula Hnídková, art historian, Institute of Art History of the Czech Academy of Sciences
Cyril Říha, theorist of architecture, AAU in Prague
Alena Šrámková, architect, professor at ČVUT in Prague
Jana Tichá, theorist of architecture, editor-in-chief of the magazine Zlatý řez
Jan Vrana, former president of the Czech Chamber of Architects

Awards are granted according to Government Regulation No. 5/2003 Coll., on awards in the field of culture, awarded by the Ministry of Culture, as amended by Government Regulation No. 98/2006 Coll. and Government Regulation No. 126/2009 Coll. Proposals for awards may be submitted by professional institutions, civic associations, other non-profit and interest organizations, natural persons active in the field, and bodies of state administration and self-government. Written proposals are sent by the proposers to the Ministry of Culture by May 31 of the year of the award. For qualified assessment of proposals for granting individual awards, the Minister of Culture appoints advisory bodies - juries in the given fields.
