Česká Lípa - Česká Lípa will have a new modern train station, which will be moved approximately 250 meters closer to the city, making it more accessible for residents. Preliminary costs are estimated at 900 million crowns, and the Railway Infrastructure Administration (SŽDC) plans to begin construction this August. It could be completed around the middle of next year, said SŽDC spokesman Marek Illiaš to ČTK today. The original historical station building from the late 19th century belongs to České dráhy and is in poor condition. What will happen to it next is not yet clear. The major SŽDC project will also involve the city of Česká Lípa, which will finance the extension of the underpass towards Dubice. "Currently, there is a non-functional bridge at the train station that used to connect it to Dubice. To shorten their journey, people are currently crossing the tracks, which is very dangerous. By building an underpass, we will create a safe path to Dubice and save people time on their way to work," said deputy mayor Juraj Raninec (ODS) to ČTK. The new station in Česká Lípa will be located where the current station warehouses are. "It will have modern platforms that will allow for comfortable boarding of trains," said Illiaš. The station building will be barrier-free with complete facilities for passengers, complemented by covered platforms. The track system will also be modernized, which will allow trains to run faster, thus reducing travel times. People will access the platforms via an underpass, and the city hall has agreed with SŽDC to extend it towards Dubice. The city will pay for the project addition as well as the costs associated with extending the underpass and constructing an exit structure by the sidewalk in Dubice. This should not cost the city more than 12.5 million crowns. "It is advantageous for us to complete the underpass to Dubice now, together with the modernization of the entire station. The only concerns the city will have regarding the construction now relate to covering the increased costs. The tender for the contractor, the construction, and all permits will be handled by the Railway Infrastructure Administration on our behalf," said Raninec. If the city decided to build a connection from the station to Dubice only after the modernization was completed, according to Raninec, it would not be without a long-term disruption of some services. "Furthermore, we could damage the existing part of the underpass during the connection and would then face complicated and expensive repairs. The preparation for the entire construction would also be lengthy," added the deputy mayor.
