Ústí nad Labem – The Czech National Bank (ČNB) is preparing to sell the branch building in Ústí nad Labem. From November 1, it will close the cash desk, and from 2027, there will be no bank staff for cash circulation and payment transactions in Ústí nad Labem. This was stated by the bank's spokesperson Petra Vlčková. The building was one of the first constructions that began to fill the gaps in the city center after 1989.
The closure of the cash desk, or rather the termination of cash operations at the branch in Ústí nad Labem, is according to Vlčková part of the process of digitizing banking services at ČNB. "All jobs associated with cash desk services have been abolished in Ústí nad Labem without replacement," she said, adding that it concerned individuals. "As part of the overall reorganization related to the digitization of banking services, a total of 43 jobs will be eliminated at the individual ČNB branches," she stated. The closure of cash desks also affects branches in Plzeň and České Budějovice.
Damaged banknotes and coins can be exchanged at the cash desks of commercial banks, which are legally obliged to provide this service. In the case of exchanging invalid banknotes, services of ČNB in Prague, Brno, Ostrava, and Hradec Králové will be available, either through a personal visit to the relevant branch or by sending the invalid banknote by post.
The bank does not plan to limit opening hours in connection with the termination of cash desk operations in Ústí nad Labem. From 2027, there will be no bank staff for cash circulation and payment transactions in Ústí. "We are looking for a suitable form of further involvement in ČNB for the employees currently working in Ústí nad Labem in the area of financial market supervision," the spokesperson said.
Given that the bank will not need the property for operations, it is preparing for its sale. The building will be offered in a tender process with the aim of selling it for the highest possible bid. The bank has been leasing some parts of the building to multiple entities for a long time. "As we are preparing the property for sale, we do not consider further leases," stated Vlčková.
The bank had the building constructed in the early 1990s in a postmodern style. The unusual building in the city center was designed by architects Michal Gabriel and Miroslav Johanovský. A pendulum adorns the front of the building.
