Jihlava - The company PSJ holding will repair the Czech embassy in Africa's Kenya. The work worth nearly 43 million crowns will be carried out in the capital city, Nairobi. For the construction firm from Jihlava, this is already the twelfth contract for the reconstruction of the Czech embassy. It was awarded in a tender by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said company spokesman Miroslav Fuks today to ČTK. "After Cairo, this is the second construction in Africa and the very first in the black part of this continent,” said Fuks. The reconstruction will take place next year from January to August. Construction materials will be transported to Nairobi in shipping containers. The craft work will be carried out by Czech builders. "For earthworks, demolition, and the supply of bulky materials, we are currently looking for suitable local companies,” said contract manager Jaroslav Řičánek. The contract includes a complete reconstruction of the ambassador's residence and related ancillary buildings. The main building will have its roof, floors, and installations changed. The fountain and pool will also be repaired. A new tennis court and kennels for guard dogs will be created in the premises. The builders will work in a climate with temperatures around 25 degrees Celsius - Nairobi is located near the equator but at an altitude of about 1800 meters. According to Řičánek, however, it is a politically unstable area with high crime rates. Four months ago, the holding completed the reconstruction of the embassy in Israel's Tel Aviv. The renovation of the five-story building cost 48 million crowns. Previously, builders from Jihlava worked in places such as Geneva, Beijing, or Tokyo. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs spends hundreds of millions of crowns annually on the maintenance of Czech embassies abroad and the construction or purchase of new properties. Since 2004, the amount spent for this purpose has been increasing. While the Czernin Palace spent 397 million crowns two years ago, it was 40 million more last year, and this year the budget for investment projects exceeds half a billion crowns.
