Prysk (Českolipsko) - The Baroque Church of St. Peter and Paul in Prysk in the Českolipsko region has changed beyond recognition over the past seven years. The dilapidated building has become a dignified monument, where a concert of the prestigious classical music festival Lípa Musica will take place this autumn. Schola Gregoriana Pragensis will perform at the concert. Radek Timoftej from the association for the church's preservation said this today to ČTK.
"The church belongs to the Roman Catholic Church, and in its reconstruction, we are cooperating with the parish administrator Marcel Hrubý and the municipality. We receive contributions from sponsors, from the state, from grants, and from various funds. We are also assisted by German natives from Prysk and their descendants," added Timoftej.
Since 2002, the church's roof has been repaired, the damp building has been drained and ventilated. The church has a new facade, gutters, interior paintings, and electrical installations. A wall has been built around the church, which has stopped water from the slope from penetrating inside. The original organ, damaged statues, and the side altar have been restored by experts. There is also a security system against thieves in the church, connected to the police.
"Saving the church has already cost many millions of crowns. Charitable concerts have also contributed to it. The latest one took place on Saturday and continued into the night. During the Čedič fest, nine bands played for symbolic fees, and the band Scream of the Lambs donated 1000 crowns to us. We organized the music festival with the group Tahem zapni and the municipal office. About 150 listeners attended, and they put over 3000 crowns into the donation box," stated Timoftej.
The proceeds from the Čedič fest will go towards the collection for repairing the clock on the church tower. The association needs about 150,000 crowns for it, and Timoftej believes that the money will be raised within a year.
The church in Prysk was created in its current form from 1718 to 1721 according to the design of the famous Italian architect Pietro Paolo Colombani. In the Czech Republic and Europe, the church is considered one of a kind. The nave of the church and the tower are separated. There is a cemetery between them.
