Councilor David Macek (KDU-ČSL) believes that only an area of 350 hectares can attract a large investor like a development company such as Google.
Brno - The Civic Association Clean Tuřany criticizes South Moravian regional councilors for the form in which they approved the draft future zoning plan. The Tuřans are bothered that it allegedly envisions a too extensive industrial zone, so people from the surroundings will suffer noise and dust after its construction. Furthermore, the value of their properties will decrease, and they will be more threatened by flash floods, the association stated in a press release. Councilor David Macek told ČTK that the region was, on the contrary, accommodating to the association and made some concessions. Macek, as the responsible councilor, initially planned that the area for industry in Tuřany would be 350 hectares at the beginning of the zoning plan discussions. After criticism from local residents and a discussion that took place in June at the local Sokol Hall, he reduced the industrial zone on the drawings. However, he did not allocate the remaining part for another purpose, but included it in a reserve. His proposal was confirmed by the councilors this week, and it is expected to be approved by the representatives on September 22. Then the zoning plan would come into effect. Representatives of Clean Tuřany, however, believe that the region is "playing a tactical game" with them. "The planners were tasked with designing variations with the most favorable, less favorable, and most unfavorable scenarios, so there would be room to yield," said Lenka Hersheyová on behalf of the association. The Tuřany industrial zone is to extend according to the drawings towards neighboring Šlapanice in Brno. The local association Clean Šlapanice is also protesting against the construction of factory halls and warehouses. "No one knows how quick the process is from reserve to realization of construction," stated Michaela Trněná on behalf of the association. Macek had previously stated that the regional zoning plan would be updated every two years. In response to people's criticism about why the proposed industrial zone should be so extensive, he said it was on the recommendation of the CzechInvest agency. Only a large area can supposedly attract a large, promising investor like a development company such as Google. Macek has already admitted that the city district of Tuřany and its surroundings are those that have to sacrifice something for the development of Brno. Therefore, he wants to kick-start a sort of community spatial planning, during which experts from various fields, including locals, would discuss the development of the area. The goal is to propose compensations for the locality. Both associations complain in the current press release that Macek has not yet invited them to community planning. However, the councilor is said to be still forming the team. They intend to invite community representatives next year.
