Prague - The Rector of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Petr Konvalinka, today signed a contract for the construction of the Czech Institute of Informatics, Robotics and Cybernetics (CIIRC) together with representatives of the company that won the public tender. The center, costing 1.18 billion crowns, will be built in Dejvice. "In just fourteen months from the start of construction work, there will be a fundamental reconstruction and the complete construction of the current Technical canteen building on Jugoslavian Partisans Street in Prague 6, along with the construction of an adjacent new building with ten above-ground and three underground floors," said Rector Konvalinka. A total of approximately 40,000 m² of space will be created, primarily serving as a center for the emerging institute of CTU, combining top-notch science across computer science disciplines. The CIIRC research and teaching center was established in July last year and is currently operating in temporary premises. It strives to support the transfer of know-how to industry and other practices. The winning bid in the tender was submitted by a consortium of companies HOCHTIEF CZ and VCES. The contract was signed today at the Bethlehem Chapel. CTU sought funding for this project from European grants of the Operational Program Research and Development for Innovations, but ultimately the grant will be provided from the state budget due to the project's complexity and tight deadlines.
