Sokolov - The demolition of the former barracks on Vítězná Street in Sokolov has been complicated by the concrete-filled basements underground. Due to this, the city must call for another tender, this time for the demolition of the foundations. It is likely to be more expensive than the demolition of the buildings themselves, said Jan Picka (ČSSD), the mayor of Sokolov, to ČTK.

The demolition of four buildings of the former barracks at Vítězná cost around one million crowns. Only after the buildings were torn down and the debris removed did it become clear that the basements of the buildings were filled with concrete.

"The cost of clearing the basements and foundation slabs, which are often three meters underground, has been estimated at such an amount that we did not even consider going ahead with that as additional work. We therefore decided to call for a new tender for the demolition of the structures below ground level. The estimated cost is 2.1 million crowns excluding VAT,"
stated Picka.

After the contractor is selected, the work should be completed within two months. Parcels for the construction of family homes should then be created on the site of the former barracks buildings. According to Picka, interested parties are already inquiring about the possibility of purchasing the land and construction.
