KD Crystal, as you don’t know it (Hurrah inside) KD Crystal was designed and realized by architect Jiří Suchomel and the SIAL studio. From 1974 to 1990, it was supposed to serve as a cultural center for the then-growing town. The author innovatively experimented with a then-unusual heating method, using solar energy. Praha – Hlávkův Bridge – a concrete gallery over the river Hlávkův Bridge, constructed according to the design of architect Pavel Janák and structural engineer František Mencl between 1909 and 1912, is an overlooked but nevertheless extraordinary example of early modern architecture and sculpture. Meet creators who work with objects and installations on the border of architecture in their free work and at the same time focus on installing exhibitions of contemporary art. Dominik Lang installed the exhibition of laureates of the Jindřich Chalupecký Award, of which he is also a winner, over the past 25 years. Praha – Unknown Veletržní Palace A gem of functionalist architecture, Veletržní Palace, was built between 1926 and 1928 according to the design of Josef Fuchs and Oldřich Tyl and became one of the first functionalist buildings in our country and in Europe. Originally serving commercial purposes, in 1974 it burned down and after challenging negotiations, it was reconstructed for the needs of the National Gallery in Prague. Today it is a place where viewers are presented with a unique collection of Czech and foreign modern and contemporary art. Praha – Architecture for Art A workshop for families with children and other interested parties. Can a sculpture become architecture? What does an artist do who becomes an exhibition architect? Praha 10 – Vršovice architecture of the 60s-80s Along the former "SNB street" (now Vršovická Street) to the “Cuban Revolution Square”, there are still seven ruins of exemplary works of architecture from the 60s to 80s of the last century. Its creators included J. Siegel, V. Klimeš, Z. Edel, J. Votruba, and many others. A walk with architect Nela Bastlová, who was born into Vršovice architecture in the mid-80s, which co-shaped and nurtured her, and who witnessed the destruction of this style. Praha – DOX – Family workshop Houses as Stories A family art workshop as part of Architecture Day for the exhibition by Jakub Szczęsny: Operations. Do you know the narrowest house in the world? Architect Jakub Szczęsny designed it for Israeli writer Etgar Keret in a gap between two apartment buildings in Warsaw. Let us be inspired by other quirky projects from the Polish architect and together we will stop in both known and hidden corners of the DOX center. From 1993 to 2001, he studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology and also at the Escuela Tecnica Superior D’Arquitectura de Barcelona and Ecoled’Architecture Paris la Defense. The Centrala studio strives to operate in the field of building and interior architecture, urbanism, and last but not least, it also engages in architectural criticism. Centrala is understood as a space where an exchange of ideas and concepts takes place. His individual projects and works stem from a conglomeration of solid scientific and artistic preparation. Prachatice from war to revolution Prachatice, like many other cities, underwent a significant urban transformation during socialism. What was this transformation like? What did the city lose, what did it gain? And how did we cope with it? These are questions that remain relevant when compared to 25 years of post-revolutionary development. Třebíč – Alive Jews today The demanding restoration of the historically immensely valuable Jewish town, which became a ghetto for socially weak groups after the war, has brought this part of the town to the UNESCO list. Volyně – School in Nature or About Sleeping Beauty Today the abandoned area of the school in nature is the work of architect Ladislav Konopka from 1980-1987. The controversial concept aimed to save children from northern Bohemia with a three-week stay in the Šumava foothills. Its prototype was the school of the trade union ADGB, built in 1930 according to the design of Hannes Meyer. Will Růženka find her prince after years? With architect Lukáš Velíšek.
