Ing. arch. Jiří Zídka: Reconstruction of the Sokol Sports Complex in Chrudim (2012)
Chrudim - Chrudim is preparing a complete modernization of the sports complex, which the city took over free of charge from the Sokol Gymnastics Union in 2010. The city council has approved the announcement of an architectural-urban competition for the reconstruction proposal. The capacity of the large multi-purpose hall is set to increase from 500 to 700 seats, said Deputy Mayor Jan Čechlovský (ODS) to reporters today. "After the reconstruction, neither the number nor the size of sports facilities should decrease. We hope that the competition will bring forth a proposal for building a nice hall within reach of the historical center of the city," Čechlovský stated. There will also be an apartment for the manager in the hall, the existing hostel will remain, and the social and technical facilities, including the creation of conditions for sports broadcasts, will need to be thoroughly modernized. The competition may result in proposals for extending the hall or partially demolishing it. "The proposals must respect the economic requirements of the city; the anticipated amount of investment is 120 million crowns excluding VAT," Čechlovský said. The city wants to carry out the reconstruction all at once and will largely have to take a loan for it. The sports complex, including adjacent areas, was taken over by the city from Sokol. It offers a large hall, a gym, a mirror room, a gymnastics hall, a table tennis room, and a newly added bouldering wall. The hall has been operating in its current state since the 1970s and has numerous technological deficiencies. A total of 1.2 million crowns has been allocated for the competition prizes. The winner will receive 600,000 crowns, while the second and third prizes are set at 300,000 and 200,000 crowns, respectively; 100,000 crowns are set aside for other interesting partial solutions. The results are expected to be known by the end of June.
