Chrudim - The leadership of Chrudim will attempt again to persuade the city councilors to agree to the first phase of the extension and renovation of the sports hall. In September, they refused to approve six million Czech crowns for the preparation of project documentation, as the estimated cost for modernization increased from the originally considered 60 million to more than double that. They will discuss the matter again on November 2, so the city has time to prepare a grant application for the construction.

"We are calling the council meeting now and not at the regular term in December because we cannot afford to lose another month," said Mayor František Pilný (ANO) to ČTK.

Chrudim has the opportunity to receive a grant of 45 million Czech crowns for the renovation of the hall, but the costs must be at least 60 million Czech crowns. Applications for the grant can be submitted next October.

The councilors will discuss both the funds for the design next year and for the actual reconstruction, which would take place in 2022 and 2023. Pilný believes he can convince a majority of the councilors. He has met with the leaders of all political parties in the council and expects support from the opposition ODS and KSČM.

The previous leadership of Chrudim planned to build a new hall in the location V Průhonech and then renovate the former Sokol Hall. However, the construction costs were too high, and the existing building could not be operated for long due to defects. Therefore, the city hall decided to reverse the approach.
