Doksy (Českolipsko) - The Máj Cinema in Doksy in the Českolipsko region is set to be equipped with digital technology by the end of this year. The investment is intended to ensure quality experiences for its visitors, but also to contribute to the preservation of this architecturally significant building, said Renata Mauserová, director of the city's cultural center, to ČTK. The cinema, opened in 1963, was designed by architect Karel Hubáček, the designer of the hotel and transmitter on Ještěd. The city is now looking for a company to take care of the technology upgrade. The cost is expected to be around 2.5 million crowns without VAT. In addition to the local government, the State Fund for the Support and Development of Czech Cinematography has also contributed to it. The reason for the investment, according to Mauserová, is the interest of locals as well as tourists who head to Českolipsko for recreation in the summer. "We also want to save this building because it is a certain architectural gem," she noted. During the summer season, when films are shown every day except Sundays, the cinema is mainly geared towards tourists. "After the season, its operation will be somewhat limited because it focuses on locals," added the director of the cultural center. Small cinemas have been facing competition from audiovisual technologies in recent years, which have spread massively into households and are taking visitors away from cinemas. The Máj Cinema in the five-thousand-strong Doksy also has competitors in the nearby area. There are cinemas in Česká Lípa and Mimoň, and even a multiplex in Mladá Boleslav, which is 30 kilometers away.
