Doksy (Českolipsko) - An exhibition commemorating the history of the architecturally significant building of the Máj cinema in Doksy, located in the Českolipsko region, will open on Tuesday in its vestibule. The director of the municipal cultural center, Renata Mauserová, informed ČTK about this today. The building was designed by the late architect Karel Hubáček, the creator of the world-famous hotel and transmitter on Ještěd. Recently, the city had its cinema digitized. Visitors will be able to familiarize themselves with the history of the cinema and its authors through nine informational panels. According to Mauserová, however, it was not only Karel Hubáček and his studio SIAL who gave the cinema its uniqueness. "It was also the creators of the cinema's interior, architect Lidmila Švarcová, who designed the interior of the entrance hall, and along with Otakar Binár, they designed the interior of the former café on the first floor of the building," Mauserová stated. The exhibition was prepared by the Antonín Bennewitz Foundation in cooperation with the city of Doksy and its cultural institution. It will open on Tuesday at 6:00 PM, and people will be able to visit it until the end of June, every Tuesday and Saturday before film screenings. On other days, visits can be arranged at the phone number 776 555 034. The digitization of the cinema cost around three million crowns. The investment is expected to ensure its further existence and competitiveness. Moreover, it was not the last investment. "For this year, we have approved another one million crowns for the cinema's repairs, as it deserves it architecturally," stated the mayor of the city, Eva Burešová. Hubáček founded the SIAL studio with his colleague Miroslav Masák in 1969. The studio gained worldwide renown and produced several generations of respected Czech architects. The studio's work was, unlike most, frequently published in prestigious foreign magazines in the 1970s and 1980s.
