Dolní Věstonice – The miniature model of the Nové mlýny reservoirs is located in the renovated square of Dolní Věstonice in the Břeclav region. The fountain, which is a miniature of the reservoirs and their surroundings, is filled with water several times throughout the day and then drained again to reveal the original position of the river Dyje's bed at the bottom of the reservoirs. "Immediately after its installation, but before the camera system was installed, someone damaged the fountain. Fortunately, the damage was repaired," said the mayor of the village, Jaroslava Rajchlová.
The municipality began preparing the reconstruction of the entire square several years ago when it started working with the Regional Museum in Mikulov to prepare the renovation of the local museum. "We wanted the renovated museum to have a nice surrounding. The architectural design was created by Jakub Děnge, and the design of the fountain itself was done by Tibor Mužík. The entire reconstruction, including the fountain, cost approximately three million crowns," stated Rajchlová.
The square has received a new granite surface that sharply contrasts with the black fountain. Greenery and benches have been added. Instead of a parking lot, the square is now a meeting place, which the locals appreciate.
The museum itself is still waiting to begin its reconstruction. The municipality will be the grant administrator, while the project itself is the responsibility of the museum. "Everything has slowed down due to COVID, and then again due to rising material prices, suppliers started to withdraw from contracts because they didn't want to guarantee the negotiated price. Therefore, a new tender was needed, and now everything is ready for the signing of the final contract. If everything goes well, the reconstruction could be completed by the end of next year," added the mayor.
