Prostějov - The residential building of the order's nurses and female staff in the area of the Prostějov hospital has become a cultural monument. This was decided by the Ministry of Culture. The functionalist building is now empty. The proposal for declaring it a cultural monument was submitted by a private individual, and heritage officials supported this proposal due to its undeniable heritage values. Vlastimil Staněk, spokesperson for the Olomouc branch of the National Heritage Institute, said this today. It is the third property in the Olomouc region to make it onto this list recently.

The author of the building is Eduard Žáček, one of the first graduates of the Czech School of Architecture in Brno. The house was built in 1933 for the order's nursing sisters who worked at the nearby hospital. "It is a valuable three-story functionalist building, composed of two perpendicular wings, indicating different functions, namely social and private," Staněk stated.

The private part of the building served on all three floors as accommodation for the sisters in five-bed rooms with shared sanitary facilities on the floor, consisting of changing rooms and bathrooms. "The second wing, with a prominent entrance and large windows, included a kitchen, dining room, and a two-story chapel, clearly recognizable due to the bay window with a cross decor, indicating the religious nature of the building even from an external perspective. The interior retained a number of artistic and craft elements even after later modifications," said Staněk. In addition to the building itself, the preservation also includes the access ramp and the main and secondary staircases.

Architect Žáček primarily designed schools, administrative buildings, industrial structures, gymnasiums, residential buildings, and villas. He significantly contributed to shaping the architectural scene in Prostějov and created several remarkable buildings there, added Staněk.

Recently, the Marian Column in Úsov in the Šumperk region was also added to the list of immovable cultural monuments at the proposal of conservationists, which experts consider a testament to folk Baroque creation from the early 18th century, as well as a memorial dedicated to the victims of the First World War in Bílý Potok in the Jeseník region. According to Vlastimil Staněk, there are over 2200 immovable cultural monuments in the Olomouc region. Each year, three to fifteen monuments manage to be added to the list of immovable cultural monuments.
