FN Olomouc has put into operation a new hematology and oncology pavilion for 160 million CZK

Olomouc – Better conditions for the care of patients with blood diseases are offered by the new outpatient pavilion of the Hemato-Oncology Clinic at the Faculty Hospital in Olomouc. It was ceremoniously opened today, a month ahead of the original schedule. "The pavilion will be fully operational from October," said the director of the Faculty Hospital in Olomouc, Roman Havlík.

The construction of the new pavilion cost 160 million crowns. The original project, according to Havlík, anticipated an investment exceeding 200 million crowns. "We won the construction tender for about 180 million crowns, and in cooperation with the architect and contractor, we managed to find certain internal savings without compromising quality, but rather the opposite," noted Havlík.

The pavilion is located next to the clinic for skin and sexually transmitted diseases, where a complex of hematological laboratories was recently established on the ground floor. The new pavilion has nine examination rooms, five sampling areas, a room for medical procedures, and two day care units for administering treatment and transfusion products.

"This building replaces one that was completely dysfunctional and perhaps unsuitable for medical services from the very beginning," said Havlík. In the old outpatient department of the Hemato-Oncology Clinic, doctors only had five examination rooms with one small and poorly accessible waiting area. Four sampling areas operated in an unsuitable room.

The new building has five above-ground and one underground floor. During its design, the movement of patients was simulated from their arrival at the facility, entry to the outpatient clinic, handling of samples, examination by a doctor, to the stay in the day care unit, administration of therapy, or transfusion. This will ensure smooth operation of the clinic. Another advantage of the new building is its good transport accessibility, especially for ambulances, and the short distance from public parking areas.

The construction of the Hemato-Oncology Clinic pavilion was designed as a low-energy passive building. The interior of the pavilion is complemented by art pieces. According to Havlík, the outpatient pavilion will be the basis for a new oncology center that is planned to be built on the site adjacent to the children's clinic at FN Olomouc in the future.

FN Olomouc is the largest healthcare facility in the Olomouc Region and the sixth largest hospital in the Czech Republic. The institution has fifty departments, nearly 1200 beds, and almost 3500 healthcare and non-healthcare employees.
