Holešov – The reconstruction of the indoor swimming pool has begun in Holešov in the Kroměříž region. The renovations of the facility on Tovární Street are expected to last about a year, with costs around 120 million crowns. The city has taken out a loan of 85 million crowns for the repairs, said Mayor Rudolf Seifert (TOP 09, elected for the Coalition for Holešov) today to the Czech News Agency. Craftsmen will replace the reinforced concrete structures of the pool, engineering networks, and technology. New changing rooms and showers will serve visitors.

The work began in September. Currently, workers are demolishing the old structures, which will then be replaced with new ones. "The old structures were so degraded that there was a risk of the entire swimming pool basin collapsing," Seifert stated.

In addition to the structures, craftsmen will replace the air conditioning, heating, and electrical systems, and technology renewal is also necessary. According to the mayor, the swimming pool with four lanes, a smaller children's pool, and a slide will remain preserved, although the city hall considered converting part of the large pool into an experience pool with water attractions. However, due to financial demands, the city has stepped back from these plans.

Part of the investment also includes the reconstruction and modernization of saunas to meet current hygiene needs and the facility's capabilities. "All showers and changing rooms will also be new, as will the entrance area with the reception," Seifert said. If approved by the councilors, the city will also allocate funds next year for improving the gyms and fitness center. The renovated facility is expected to start serving visitors in September next year.

The indoor swimming pool was built on Tovární Street in the 1980s as part of the so-called Action Z, meaning unpaid volunteer work by residents. It had operated for decades without major repairs, making its general reconstruction essential, according to city representatives. Approximately 11,500 residents live in Holešov.
