Horažďovice (Klatovy) - The six-thousand-strong town of Horažďovice plans to reconstruct the entire area of the central square for approximately 40 million crowns by the end of next year. The new town leadership has decided to revise the project approved by the previous municipality and is now requiring more greenery and the division of the square into a quiet and functional zone from the architects. The town intends to start construction in the spring, Mayor Michael Forman said to ČTK.

"The start depends on the archaeological survey, the first part of which was completed by July 31. We have already announced a competition for the continuation of the survey in the green area, where it is expected that parts of historical buildings known as the Špalíček will be found. There are still about 30 square meters in front of the church entrance, where the archaeologists will be for about two months. We would like to accomplish as much as possible by the end of the year," Forman stated.
The reconstruction began last year, but only Hradební Street is completed and about a tenth of the main sewage collector, all for two million crowns. The town selected the company Silnice Klatovy as the contractor, which was supposed to carry out the construction for 38 million crowns. However, the new town leadership ultimately terminated the contract, even though it was satisfied with the company's work. "We encountered errors in the project and want to return to the original idea of separating the quiet zone from the functional zone, which shifts the square into a different category. We were very concerned that fundamental errors would surface in the future, which we would have to deal with, and it might end up costing us more money than the town leadership had anticipated," Forman said.
There will be no grass in the square. Instead of the current 27 trees, there will be 41. The area of greenery will be incomparably larger. Trees are ideal for providing shade; grass does not provide it. Only supply vehicles can enter the quiet area in front of the church and rectory, where there will be trees, a gazebo, a statue, and benches; cars can park in the traffic area.
"By the end of the year, we want to have a new project and documentation for the construction execution, which is crucial for tendering the contract for the supplier," Forman stated. The town is considering financing with a loan of 30 million crowns. It already had it prepared, but will compete for it again.
